This honey baked apples recipe is the perfect fall treat! With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and comforting dish that everyone will love. Best of all, this versatile recipe can be enjoyed with breakfast, dinner or dessert!

A plate of honey baked apples with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream.

Apple season is once again upon us! I don't know about you, but apple picking is one of my favorite fall activities, followed by eating them in every way imaginable. Some of my favorites ways to cook with apples are by making homemade cinnamon applesauce, apple oat muffins, apple crostinis or using them as a sweet ingredient in my vegan sausage stuffing.

This delicious recipe is so easy to make! All you have to do is slice the apples, mix in the honey and spices, pour it into a baking dish and let it bake in the oven for 30 minutes. That's it!

The results are magical; perfectly tender, sweet and juicy baked apples! Serve a big scoop of roasted apples in bowl with a dollop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious, cozy dessert! This is a simple crowd-pleasing recipe; you'll love it!

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for honey baked apples.
  • Apples - this recipe is perfect to make in the fall months when apples are in season and bursting with flavor!
  • Spices - ground cinnamon and ground cloves are the ultimate combo.
  • Honey - honey bring out the natural sweetness of the apples.
  • Lemon - lemon juice may seem like a surprising ingredient, however it brightens the dish and prevents the apples from oxidizing (turning brown) after they have been sliced.

Substitutions and Variations

  • No honey? No problem! Try using maple syrup or brown sugar instead.
  • Add your favorite spices such as ginger, nutmeg or allspice for a flavor variation.
  • Top the baked apples with nuts such as pecans or walnuts to add some crunch!

Tips For Choosing The Best Apples

  • Make sure to look for firm, unblemished apples. If you do have apples that are bruised just make sure to cut off the soft bruised section before using them.
  • There is always so much debate about the best variety of apple to use for baking. Personally, I use whatever apples look the best and are available to me. Some of my recommended varieties are pink lady, fuji, honeycrisp or granny smith apples.
  • If you living in an area where you are able to, try picking your own apples! This is a great way to have the full farm to table experience and I find it to be such a fun activity.
